Description

POI Assistant is a windows phone app which can read POI files in OV2 (TomTom) format in order to find different kinds of POIs in the sourrounding area (i.e. cash machines, gas stations, fast food restaurants, ...). The points of intrest are first displayed in a list according to the distance to your current location. After selecting a specific POI, it will be displayed in a map view in relation to your current position.

Note:
The POI Assistant app does not include any OV2 POI databases. Before the first real use, you have to download OV2 POI files from the web (see examples below). Afterwards you have to transfer the POI files to your Windows Phone by using the POI Assistant File Manager software.

How to transfer POI files to your Windows Phone

1. Download the corresponding OV2 POI File from the internet into a separate directory on your harddisk.
2. In most cases, there is an additional bitmap file (22x22 Pixel) icon included in the download packace. If you want to use this icon with POI Assistant, you'll have to convert the BMP- in PNG image format (i.e. by using Windows Paint -> Save As).
3. Make sure that the .NET Framework version 4.0 is installed on the PC.
4. Run the programm POI Assistant File Manager (download below) as Administrator (!) on your PC and choose the directory with the OV2 / PNG files. You can start the program as administrator by right-clicking on the program file and selecting the corresponding menu point.
5. Make sure that the incoming TCP Port 7000 is not blocked on your firewall (firewall-specific setting).
6. Make sure that your Windows Phone is connected to your LAN (via wireless land or directly with the PC via cable).
7. Run POI Assistant on your Windows Phone and choose the menupoint files from the application bar.
8. Enter the local IP address the PC on which POI Assistant File Manager is running.
9. If the entered IP adress was correct and no firewall is blocking communication, you should see the list of OV2 / PNG Dateien files, which can be then transferred to the Windows Phone by using the menu buttons.
